St. James is truly blessed with a wide variety of ministries for all ages. Our adult ministry groups are very active and are always up to something. Below are several areas of extended fellowship available:

Adult Sunday School

We have four adult Sunday School classes that meet every Sunday Morning at 9:45 am:

GAPS
An Adult ministry for young(er) married and singles for devotion and fellowship. This class meets in the parlor on the second floor. Written Bible study lessons are used, as well as book or video discussions.
Teachers: varies

Hollis A. Miller Memorial Class
The Hollis Miller class uses the Standard Lesson Commentary as its curriculum. This class meets on the 2nd floor of the Education building.
Teachers: Frank Irvin

Fellowship Class
The Fellowship class has inspiring Bible studies each Sunday taught by members of the class. They contribute to outreach ministries such as the American Cancer Society, the Pete Lentz Linen Fund, Jimmy Murphy’s Christmas Dinner, and the Lutheran Seminary Auxiliary. This class meets on the 2nd floor of the Education building.
Teachers: Dave Burke,  Linny Baker and Bill Fisher

Cook Memorial Class
The Cook Memorial class uses the International Sunday School lessons series. The class continues to support Church and community outreach ministries by making contributions to Lutheran Homes in Albemarle and Salisbury, the American Red Cross, Bible Teaching Fund, Salvation Army, Earthquake victims in Turkey, and Meals on Wheels. The class also supported various Church projects such as the Kitchen Fund, the Music Fund, providing poinsettias for our shut-ins and the Memorial fund. They meet on the first floor of the church.
Teachers: Lex Patterson, Joe Fries, Al Brown, Jr.

Wednesdays Together

This is a wonderful time for fellowship and discussion. The study begins at 6:20 pm each Wednesday evening and concludes by 7:00 pm. The meeting is in the Fellowship Hall, preceded by a delicious supper beginning at 5:30pm. In addition to our Bibles as resources, we will have other resources (copies will be available) that address the subject of the day. This includes commentary, as well as discussion questions. Reservations are required for the dinner. These can be made by calling the church office or using the event sign-up tab on the home page of this site.
Please bring your bible, but don’t worry if you don’t have it, there are plenty available in the church.
Look forward to seeing you at Wednesday’s together.

Women of the Evangelical Church in America (WELCA)

WELCA, a partner in the total ministry of the church. The organization that affirms, supports and challenges women in their daily ministries at home and around the world.
The St. James WELCA, having been formed for nearly 110 years, is a great force in helping to carry out the mission of the Church. On April 24th, 1885, The Women's Home and Foreign Missionary Society of North Carolina was organized. The first annual convention of the State Society met April 29, 1886 at St. James. In July 1897, the organization became the first Ladies Aid Society and Missionary Society. The Ladies Aid Society was involved in promotion and support of the mission field. It was later merged into the Lutheran Church Women and is now known as the Women of the Evangelical Church in America (WELCA).
Among the many functions of the WELCA are providing meals to families during a death as well as providing our lovely greeters for both Traditional and Non-Traditional worship. Circles also take on their own special projects including: providing snacks for the CMC ICU waiting room, donating soap powder for CVAN, collecting canned goods for CCM,  providing meals for the Night Shelter, helping with Easter breakfast, etc…
Our three WELCA circles that meet monthly are:
·         Esther  - meets the first Monday of each month at 730pm in a member’s home
·         Mary Magdalene/Dorcas  - meets the first Tuesday of each month  10am at the church
·         Hannah  - meets the first Monday of each month at 7pm at the church

Lively Leisures Club

The Senior members of St. James meet together as a group known as the Lively Leisures Club. Between the months of September and May the group meets at the church the third Tuesday of each month at 12:00 pm for a light lunch and a short program. The members use this special time to keep their love and relationship for each other alive and rejoice that God's love is everlasting.
